So, is Halloween, like, real? Or what? Turns out that it's less authentic, maybe, than you might think. (It's not even really Pagan.) Much like Christmas -- a holiday so broad in scope that my Jewish friends give me Christmas mix tapes -- it turns out that our beloved October 31st traditions were actually cobbled together in the last 100 years or so, from other holidays' leftovers, by greeting card companies and magazine writers. Not that there's anything wrong with that. It's still my favorite holiday, along with Elvis' birthday (January 8th this year; don't miss it!).

What I found most interesting was the link to the trade group for people who run haunted houses:
"Imagine smashing a beer bottle on your head and eating the glass in front of your patrons, bite a hidden blood capsule at the same time and you have an instantly memorable scene. (In case you were wondering, sugar glass tastes like candied apple.)"
A couple years back we drove from Boston all the way the hell out to somewhere in the middle of nowhere for "Spookyville". Unfortunately, the *really* scary haunted house was closed because of safety concerns. We instead settled for a not-so-scary haunted hayride. People jumped out at us. Not so frightening. But then there was the Haunted Insane Clown Asylum. Man, that was some scary shit....
I took the Haunted S.A.T.s in high school. Man was that terrifying. Oh, wait....
