(With apologies to Greg for the title.) Found in a recent Net Impact ezine: A Hong Kong fashion company has recalled its line of Nazi-themed clothing, which was promoted in stores thusly:
Red banners with white swastikas on top of iron crosses hung Saturday from the ceilings of some of the firm's 14 stores. The banners also carried a sign that resembled the symbol of the Third Reich: an eagle above a swastika. One branch broadcast Nazi propaganda films on a wall with a projector.
Here are some choice quotes from their marketing manager, found on this blog:
"This is Hong Kong, and Chinese people are not sensitive about Nazism," marketing manager Deborah Cheng said after the company's managers met last night. "If you grab 10 young people from the street and ask them if they know what Nazism is, I bet you none of them would answer 'yes'. . . . People should not be too sensitive. It is simply the creative work of a very politically ignorant and insensitive designer," she added.Maybe they can replace them with Abercrombie & Fitch "Asian" t-shirts?
