Sputtering Outrage, Karl Rove edition

I suppose by now you've heard Karl Rove's latest -- that "Conservatives saw the savagery of 9/11 in the attacks and prepared for war; liberals saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers."

Hillary and Chuck demand an apology. You should, too. If you're a New Yorker, call Bloomberg and Pataki and demand that they repudiate Rove's comments. Mayor Mike has tried to walk the line between his party and his constituents, most of whom were just roundly slandered by Mr. Rove. Not in NYC? Represented by a Republican? ask them to repudiate Rove's comments.

Shameless.

Mike, I don't know. Assume for a moment Karl Rove plays the same role for his side that James Carville did (I know: "D'uh!"). Then shamelessness is part of the job description, I'd think.

Plus, this is a golden opportunity for some Democrat who's willing to immolate Howard Dean for personal gain to feast on Roast Howie and establish themselves as a front-runner for '08. Someone like, say, Hillary!, who has been relatively hawkish, can now lash out at the Michael Moore wing of the party (which IMHO drives away more votes than it brings in) AND lash out at Rove, and maybe, just maybe, pull in the hypothetical great middle who thinks we've done more-or-less the right things but haven't been up to handling the consequences.

Or, the shorter form, getting all pissed of at Rove is EXACTLY what he wants you to do.

This Dark Side stuff is addictive, once you get into it....

hillary shouldn't "lash out" at no one, no how. my sister was ready to vote for bush nov. 1. grandma took care of the 8-month-old twins and she watched the last half of moore's f9/11 that night.

my sister voted for kerry, because one of her children is a son.

hillary should continue to stand up and fight for everyone who affected by september 11, though. i'm diggin' the battles she picks.

Actually, Mark, I don't think Rove wants me to get pissed off. He wants to throw red meat to the GOP, to feed the lie that liberals are soft on terrorism. He doesn't care what I think, this is not a "let's get them all upset" kind of statement. This is a Big Lie, repeated over and over again until it becomes Conventional Wisdom.

And frankly, them's fighting words. I've had it up to here with the Republicans impugning my patriotism, and saying that I support terrorists. First it's the likes of Coulter saying it, and apologists say, well, that's just Coulter, she's crazy and doesn't speak for Republicans. Then it bubbles all the way up to Karl Rove. Then Dick Cheney. Enough is enough is enough.

And our liberal soliders (not an oxymoron) say that Rove's statements are like a "knife in the back."

So call it "the Dark Side" if you want to. I call it speaking the truth.
