As we can note in many areas of American life, the ripples from those fights continue to be seen, not least in politics where Bush speaks regularly to the people who don’t want their lives to be burdened with solving the world’s problems, who just want to have a good time. Besides, it’s a good smokescreen. The more Jon Stewart talks about amusing press conferences, the less he talks about the prez blocking investigations into illegal domestic spying.
