I've recently gotten hooked on this lunch blog called Lunch in a Box: Building a Better Bento. The author packs these amazing little lunches for herself and her toddler in next to no time each day. She also explains how she does it, including full disclosure of the secrets of prep for speed and hygiene.
I'm tremendously impressed as somebody who can barely drag a tupperware box in 3 times a week. But the real reason I read it is that I can enjoy it without feeling guilty about my own habits at all, it's just pretty and non-judgmental. Oh, and I loved her rant against lunchables.

if you live near an honest to goodness butcher shop like I do it is possible to get great tasting healthy cold cuts. Slapping some ham or turkey between two clices of whole wheat bread takes me about 30 seconds in the AM (another minute to do the same for my son and put it in his lunch box). Grab some organic whole fruit on my way out and I am set. Between that and left-overs we enjoy tasty nutrious food daily.

Comment #2 :: link :: April 26, 2007 01:56 PMOh I did skim the site and yes it is all very pretty, but a lot of it seemed to involve cooking and thinking ahead, both hard in the morning :)
My mini rant was mostly an expression of my frustration with Americas food supply where we are constantly trying to live better through chemicals and advanced packaging. it was also a misplaced jibe at people who aske me how I can live in NYC with out big box stores and superdupermarkets.
This woman is a genius. I can barely stand making a PB&J. I hate washing tuppererware.
Comment #4 :: link :: April 27, 2007 07:58 PMThat's one of the things I really miss about our old neighborhood in Brooklyn -- the butcher. We have only one place close to being a real butcher here, and neither the meat nor the service are the same. There's also a semi-butcher in an Italian importing store (otherwise an A+ store), but I don't think they rate.
I might as well name the old place, in case anyone gets the chance to go. Staubitz on Court St. They're fantastic.
