Dear Internet:

Thanks so much for loaning me the MP3s to sample. I've really enjoyed listening to some great music and learning about new artists.

Now, could you please properly tag those MP3s before you send them out? Pretty please? It would make things so much easier for all of us.

Thanks!

OK, every now and then, I realize I'm far from hip. This is one of those times. I know what tags are, but somehow I don't get the joke here - is there supposed to be a link with music, or an example of bad/no tagging?

Or (likely) am I just clueless?

It's not a joke -- all MP3s have metadata "tags" that tell you the artist, album, track title, etc. Often MP3s that are, um, "shared" over the Internet lack some critical info (like, who's singing this?!) I run downloads through MusicBrainz which is good, but of course incomplete and also time-consuming. A bunch of stuff just gets tossed. So, I'm just complaining -- it's not like I can ask for my money back!
