HOAX! See below.
The LA Times reports:
Cameron, the Fox beat reporter for the Republican presidential ticket, said he had been told by unnamed sources -- and on the condition he not report the details during the campaign -- that Palin could not name all of the countries that are part of the North American Free Trade Agreement. He did not mention which one (or ones) she whiffed on, but there are only three: Canada, the U.S. and Mexico.
Nor, according to Cameron, was Palin aware that Africa is a continent. (Perhaps she was hamstrung by the fact that no part of that land mass can be viewed from her homestate.)
(Emphasis added. Via Cynical-C.)
Update: Apparently, she doesn't even know what a real moose looks like either:
Update Update: Egg, meet face. The whole thing was a hoax perpetrated by Martin Eisenstadt, a fake advisor to the McCain campaign. I done got taken in. At least I wasn't the only one. Curse you, MSM, and your bad-fact-checkers!

Googlenews has a bunch of stories on this, with all sorts of sordid tidbits. Good news for all those who feared she was the future of the republican party. No one will want to work with her in 2012.
Comment #1 :: link :: November 6, 2008 3:15 PMAre you two some kind of community organizers? Have you been palling around with terrorists? I'm going to find a blog that's pro-America. You betcha!
Comment #2 :: link :: November 6, 2008 9:52 PMWell, some people with actual names and reputations attached seem to want to work with her in '12, or at least sound like they want to see her run.
Is there a switch you flip that says "critical thinking=OFF" when you read something about a long-term threat to Obama's hegemony? 'Cause the long knives are out, and prior to the election Palin was outdrawing everybody, be it at rallies, polls, or television appearances.
Romney is pissing himself (and I bet the Obama org noticed the crowds, and hey, fluid is fluid) and it's leaking into the press. Run with it, guys.
Oh, btw, welcome back, Ish. :)
Comment #3 :: link :: November 9, 2008 12:13 AM :: homepageOh, I have no doubt that there are those that want to see her run in 2012, or that she drew crowds at her rallies. But seriously -- a threat to Obama's "hegemony"? (Can he really have hegemony before he takes office?) Obama should put Palin on his Christmas card list, because she got him a presidency this year.
I mean there are lots of those (with names and reps) who are eager to pin the blame for the McCain loss on Palin -- and I don't think they're just making it up. How many conservatives and moderates and just plain folks said that the Palin pick is what made up their mind not to support McCain?
Now Tina Fey in 2012 -- I think I could get behind that idea.
Oh, and good to see you back too!
Comment #4 :: link :: November 11, 2008 4:49 PM :: homepageSchadenfreude! Get yer schadenfreude here.
The hegemony thing was of course a bit of a joke. People have been accusing Bush of running an Imperial Presidency for so long it's kind of funny to see some Obama supporters up the ante to full-blown idolatry.
Comment #5 :: link :: November 13, 2008 5:52 PMActually, I'm still confused about which part was the hoax. My understanding was that Fox news had a real story and then the hoaxsters stepped in to claim they were the anonymous sources behind it.
Comment #6 :: link :: November 17, 2008 10:22 AM :: homepageMy understanding is the same as Ennis. An anonymous source from the McCain campaign leaked the Africa and NAFTA stories. Then, "Eisenstadt" took credit for being the source.
