Analysts may look to bellwethers such as Vigo County, or Guam, but for my money, you can't do worse than picking the coolest Secret Service code name to predict an election. Just look at the following match-ups:
Timberwolf v. Peso
Cavalier v. Rawhide
Ramrod v. Eagle
Deacon v. Passkey
Minuteman v. Trailblazer
Renegade v. Phoenix
Searchlight v. Lancer
Tumbler v. Sundance
Without even knowing which name is assigned to which candidate, can you guess the winner of these elections? They're out of chronological order, so bonus IshPoints if you can ID who each one is. Answers in first comment. No peeking.

And the winners are... envelope please...
Timberwolf v. Peso -- Bush Sr. v. Dukakis
Cavalier v. Rawhide -- Mondale v. Reagan
Ramrod v. Eagle -- Dole v. Clinton
Deacon v. Passkey -- Carter v. Ford
Minuteman v. Trailblazer -- Kerry v. G.W. Bush
Renegade v. Phoenix -- Obama v. McCain
Searchlight v. Lancer -- Nixon v. JFK
Tumbler v. Sundance -- G.W. Bush v. Gore (W.'s codename is listed as both Tumbler and Trailblazer; Gore's as Sundance and Sawhorse.)
But Sundance is a way cooler name than Tumbler! Finally, conclusive proof that Gore was robbed!
Comment #2 :: link :: November 14, 2008 1:05 PMYes, but ... "Trailblazer v. Sawhorse" goes the other way. Even the Secret Service couldn't make up their mind about those two.
